Three Lakes Cultural Trust turns two
February marks two years since we launched our arts and cultural masterplan to the district.
This month we are reflecting on where we have come in that time and what a ride it has been! Thanks to the incredible support and generosity of the community, donors and granting organisations, the Trust has been able to achieve some very significant milestones since that day:
Delivering RenewArt to an audience of over 1800. Conceived in the wake of the first COVID-19 lockdown, this project highlighted the extraordinary work by our local artists and embraced the theme of ‘renewal’.
After advocating behind the scenes for almost a year, in mid-2021 TLCT achieved a hugely significant breakthrough for the creative community with the adoption of the QLDC 2021-2031 Ten Year Plan and provision for an arts and cultural hub. Te Atamira, a multi-purpose arts facility is scheduled to open in Autumn at Remarkables Park Shopping Centre.
Initiating the inaugural Arts in Schools Pilot Programme to over 340 students. This week-long arts programme designed to encourage creative thinking, support wellbeing, and develop connections, saw tamariki working alongside professional local artists. Plans for 2022 and beyond are already underway.
Development of Te Wāhi Toi, a comprehensive online platform for all things arts and culture in our district, currently being tested internally and set to launch in Autumn.
You can be sure we will continue to advocate for a future filled with growth and connection in our creative sector.
