RenewArt Artist Profile: Kay Turner

Introducing Kay Turner

I have been a maker all my life and a practicing studio jeweller for the past 15 years. As a trained pattern maker, my ideas are greatly influenced by textiles and garment construction.  I use textiles and found materials alongside the traditional precious metals and stones.

There is a sense of satisfaction in creating forms and putting gesture onto a surface that all visual artists experience. The relationship between form and texture inspires me. It is what I love about the environment we live in.

I build my pieces by cutting, texturing, bending, mark making and assembling. The process is sometimes planned, other times spontaneous. I use landscape textures and architectural motifs alongside textile references and a hint of domestic forms. I enjoy the contrasts.
