Rachael Linton
Project Title: Cymatic Companions
Practice: Paint on canvas
The Experience: Cymatic Companions is a touring exhibition of 10-18 framed artworks by Linton that transforms sound vibrations into visual forms, exploring the connections between sound, frequency, matter, and pattern. Inspired by hidden natural forces such as mycelium networks, bioelectric fields, and the communication systems of trees, the works reveal the often-unseen energies that shape our world.
The exhibition also draws on cosmic phenomena, translating concepts such as star formation, gravitational waves, and galactic structures into immersive visual artworks..
Venue: QLDC Church Street Foyer
Address: 14 Church Street
Location of Art: The foyer is accessible through the glass sliding doors on 14 Church St. Kate's work is displayed on the walls to your right.
Accessibility:

Parking: Paid parking right in front. Free parking at the Queenstown Gardens 10 mins away.
About the Artist:
Equal parts lab experiment and cosmic séance. Dubbed an “acoustic alchemist,” Rachael Linton is an abstract painter exploring celestial and natural themes – harmony and chaos, energy and vibration, radiance and illumination.
Working with cymatic vibrations (the patterns of sound made visible) and 23.5ct gold leaf, she creates an immersive exchange between reflected light and the viewer. Gold, valued for its conductive and reflective qualities, becomes both material and metaphor - channelling energy across glass like a living network and bridging the physical with the ethereal.
Balancing the history of gilding, specifically verre églomisé (reverse painting and gilding on glass), with intuitive abstraction, the artist allows a numinous state of consciousness into her work.
Rachael is inspired by research on the communication of trees from books such as Merlin Sheldrake’s Entangled Life, and Peter Wohlleben’s The Hidden Life of Trees. She paints trees communicating through sonic vibrations, root systems, and energy weaving through the landscape.
