The Experience: Echoes explores memory, place, and repair through sculptural works that wrap found rocks in copper using Te-ami netting, linear coils, and an adapted form of Kintsugi, celebrating natural imperfections and the stories they hold. About the Artist:
Kathy Barber is a Wanaka-based painter and sculptor whose Te-ami practice transforms foraged stones, wood, and repurposed materials into hand-woven sculptures that explore memory, connection, and the relationship between strength and fragility.
Inspired by the Japanese wire-weaving tradition of Kanaami, these unique works use intricate hand-netting techniques to honour place, time, and personal experience, creating tangible expressions of remembrance and attachment to New Zealand’s landscapes.
