Creative Rights and Artists’ Resale Royalty workshop

With thanks to Copyright New Zealand, QLDC and Te Atamira, we are excited to bring this FREE workshop to Wānaka and Tāhuna Queenstown this September.

Copyright Licensing New Zealand, Creative Rights Educator / Kaiwhakahaere Whakapā, Karen Workman will be delivering an insightful and practical workshop designed to demystify key aspects of creative rights and prepare you for upcoming changes.

Understanding Creative Rights
For the first hour and a half, Karen will dive into New Zealand’s copyright law, breaking down complex concepts into manageable insights for creative practitioners across all fields—whether you’re involved in the literary arts, visual arts, screen industry, or music. You’ll gain a clear understanding of what copyright protects, the nuances of original work usage, and how to navigate copyright breaches. Karen will also discuss the role of contracts, the impact of AI, and other relevant hot topics.

Navigating Artists’ Resale Royalty
In the final half-hour, Karen will focus on the new Artists’ Resale Royalty legislation set to take effect on December 1st. This segment is crucial for visual artists, sculptors, art estate inheritors, and dealer galleries. Karen will explore what the legislation entails, how it will be administered, and what changes you can expect in your professional practice.

The session will wrap up with an open Q&A to address your specific concerns.
