Kia ora,

The countdown till the end of the year is truly here. In the words of our previous Board Chair Gizelle Regan, 'This year has been transformative as we continue to make significant strides in embedding creativity and culture into the fabric of the Queenstown Lakes District.'  The unanimous endorsement of Te Muka Toi, Te Muka Tākata | The Creativity, Culture, and Heritage Strategy for the Queenstown Lakes District is a significant step forward for arts, culture and heritage in our district.

We'll be taking a break over Christmas and New Years before we head into another big year working with our community and partners to deliver the actions set out in the Strategy implementation plan.

We will still be monitoring and approving new listings on  Te Wāhi Toi / The Arts Place, however there could be a slight delay. If you have any upcoming events, we encourage you to load them onto Te Wāhi Toi as soon as possible to ensure they get into diaries and avoid duplication!

But, before we sign off for the year, Meri Kirihimete ki a koutou katoa me ō koutou whānau Merry Christmas to you all and your families.

Arts Funding 101 - Creative New Zealand
“It's really important people understand all the work, skills and support that goes into putting creative work into the world. Toby was recently commissioned by Creative New Zealand Toi Aotearoa to illustrate how the arts are funded in Aotearoa New Zealand. Check it out.

Connectivity with Heritage Groups
The last month has seen great connectivity amongst some of our local heritage groups. Passionate advocates from across the district, joined the Lakes District Museum & Gallery and Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) Heritage representatives, at the Cardona Hall for an afternoon of networking, updates and potential collaboration in the future.

A few days later, representatives from TLCT, QLDC and the Lakes District Museum headed to Glenorchy to meet with local artist Corrine Davis and archaeologist Leslie Van Gelder from Head of the Lake Heritage Museum for a tour of the local museum, library and heritage sites.

Ensuring ongoing heritage networking to understand community aspirations and set direction for heritage management, is a direct action from the Creativity, Culture and Heritage Strategy. If you have an interest in heritage, please email Museum Director Jane Peasy at the Lakes District Museum, as she would love to hear from you.
